Task Six
Magazine Evaluation
In "Task Five" I had to create a magazine for my Unit 1. I just had to create the magazine cover and add things to make it look like your average magazine that you would find in a shop. I used Adobe Indesign to complete this task and found it difficult at first as I have only ever used it once and found it very difficult, but with a little help I got the hang of it very quickly.
The things that I think have gone really well was the colour scheme. This is because I have gone with blue to match the background image but I have also used red in there as well to mark things that are not really relevant, for example the competition and the Christmas gifts. Another thing that I think went really well was the background image itself. I thought this went really well, and looks good, because i edited it using a website called picmonkey.com to crop and get rid of unnecessary marks, for example black smudges on the blue box.
The one thing i don't think went well was the name of the magazine, "Wildlife Photography". I like this name for the magazine but the background image does not go with the name of the magazine, even though it was meant for the "Perfect Pet Photography" part of the magazine I still think i should of chosen another name or gone with another image, because if this was published and being sold in stores it would confuse the readers.
If I were to do this magazine, and Unit, again I would think about titles more so that it suits the final outcome and brings everything together better. I would also use more techniques in my own photographs rather than playing it safe with doing what I know, meaning use slower shutter speeds and change the exposures and experiment more.
Overall, I did enjoy this unit and did really like my final outcome of my magazine. I think that the whole process went really well based on that the first time i used Adobe Indesign was two years ago and I found it very difficult and confusing and now I had a better understanding of how to use the many other tools and what they could do. I'm proud of what I have achieved in Unit 1 overall.
